HILLSDON ERA STARTS WITH DEFEAT

On a day more suited to Noah and his chums, new manager Rob Hillsdon’s reign as Fosse City’s manager started with a visit from second division Fleckney Athletic in the Bill Walton cup at Brighton Avenue.

Fosse got off to a good start despite losing a couple of key players through injury and took an early lead in the first five minutes through Ian ‘Chicko’ Hickling. A couple of minutes later though, Fleckney had equalised but Fosse continued to press with missed chances from striking duo Dean Morgan and Ryan Bayliss. Morgan being unlucky to miss several good chances but we’ll blame them on the bad weather. Just before half time, Fosse were unlucky to concede an own goal scored by veteran centre half Paul Cleary. Fosse went into their half time break an unfortunate 2-1 down.

After the break Fosse swapped Paul Cleary for an almost fit again James Knight and were rewarded by a spectacular own goal after good work by Ryan Bayliss, making it 2-2. A head injury to left back Kristian Carter saw Tom ‘Shrek’ Hoegger come on to work his magic. Tragically for Fosse though, with two minutes left on the clock, Fleckney scored what turned out to be the winner. Overall, Fosse did themselves proud against a team two division higher than themselves.
