The ever improving Fosse recorded an excellent 7-2 win over Sporting Wigston, with a performance that suggested that Fosse are beginning to get back to their best. Despite missing 4 of the regular back 5, Fosse never looked in too much trouble. The midfield dominated the game from start to finish, and with Knight and Barnett rading down the flanks, Fosse looked dangerous every time they went forward.
The break through came mid way through the first half, after an excellent goal kick from Cobley was contested by Barnett and Bayliss, Morgan ran clear and cooly fired the ball into the bottom corner. A few minutes later the impressive Goddard battled his way down the left wing, shrugged off a couple of challenges and delivered a perfect cross for Bayliss to superbly volley home.
The half time whistle came with Fosse in a commanding 2-0 lead. The 2nd half started in similar fashion with Carter closing down the Sporting midfield quickly, leading to a loose pass, which Barnett pounced, who then broke clear and put Fosse 3-0 up. Another goal for Fosse quickly followed with Knight the provider this time. Knight burst down the left and crossed brilliantly for Goddard to slot home. Fosse were in cruise control by now. However, such is the way with Fosse this season, Sporting began to claw their way back into the match. First, poor marking from a corner, and then slow reactions gave Sporting 2 goals. With Fosse beginning to let their grip slip, the highly impressive Cobley produced a string of excellent saves to preserve the Fosse lead. Cobley's heroics spurred Fosse on and they quickly went through the gears to finish the game off. The dominant Barnett providing the goal of the game with a wonderful turn on the edge of the box, and an excellent left foot shot into the far corner. Fosse could sense a victory, and went for the kill. Bayliss netted after good work from Barnett, before the ageing Bowmerman rolled back the years with a delightful run and cross which left Morgan with the simplest of finishes. There was even time for W.Carter to show glimpses of former glories with a 10 minute cameo, resulting in a booking for the Sporting full back. Rumours even went round that Hillsdon would make a rare appearance, but these proved to be false, as lets face it, that would just be silly
