After making the the long journey out to Desford Fosse started the game very strongly, and, in truth, it was over as a contest inside 15 minutes. For the duration of the first half the away side were pretty much camped inside the Hood Park penalty area, with the corner count easily running into double figures in the opening period. This paired with the numerous long throws hurled in from both flanks by Cobley wreaked havoc in the 6 yard box.
Fosse had already squandered a few chances before they eventually went ahead through Dunmore, who ghosted into box to power home a header after Barnett flicked on a Cobley 'Rory Delap' style throw-in.
This led to a flurry of goals, brilliant work down the left by Knight led to a low cross which found Barnett unmarked, who stroked the ball home from close range. Knight was at it again moments later, storming past 4 defenders, using his trademark 'scoop' dribbling technique and beating the keeper at his near post from a tight angle. C.Carter then casually stroked in a penalty after Barnett aka Eduardo took a blatent dive inside the box.
Morgans set-piece delivery was tremendous all game, and he got his reward when he curled the ball over the keeper and into the net direct from a corner. Shortly after Goddard was sent sprawling by a poor challenge when heading clear of the defence, the culprit lucky to escape what could have been a red card, after seeing the ball break to Knight on the left, the referee rightly played an advantage, Barnett raced clear, well found by Knight and somewhat fortuitously fed the ball under the goal keeper.
Fosse defended well all game and serious Hood Park attacks were few and far between due to the aerial prowess of Jones and crucial interventions from Reece. However, Parmar was called upon twice in the first half, both times he produced outstanding saves, once with his legs and once diving full length to his right. There was more brilliant play in the first half from fosse with lots of movement, link-up between midfield and attack, and also overlapping fullbacks Hoegger and Cobley causing problems. However, with Barnett, Knight and Primarily Goddard missing good chances it was 6-0 at the break.
Fosse started the second half in the same manner in which they had started the first, shortly after the re-start Barnett beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper to complete his hat-trick. Reece then looped the ball into the box, Barnett jostled with the keeper and the ball fell for Cobley who bravely put his body on the line at back post to head home. More good work from Knight exposed the Hood Park defence, after another great run he unselfishly layed the ball off for Barnett to prod home from six yards when he could easily have scored himself.
Goddards hard work paid off shortly after, having missed a whole host of opportunities earlier in the match, 'the boy wonder' who was the subject of an illegal approach from Div4 rivals Sporting Wigston (who incidentally have started the season attrociously) in the summer showed no signs of any lack of confidence when he sidestepped his marker and rifled the ball in off the bar from just inside the area.
Barnett smashed home left footed from close range after another throw caused chaos. Then Goddard raced clear of the defence and forced a good save from the keeper but Barnett was on hand to head home his 6th of the match, and from a similar position shortly after Goddard dragged his shot harmlessly wide. Morgan, Dunmore and Reece all saw long range efforts fly just off target before Morgan grabbed his 2nd, creating space and finishing smartly from the edge of the box.
Maher and K.Carter replaced Jones and Hoegger, before penalty taker genius Carter turned provider late on, beating the full back and sliding the ball across for Goddard to toe poke home. 6 goal hero Barnett was (to his disgust) substituted with 10 minutes to play, replaced by fans favourite Hillsdon who entered the match to rapturous applause, having been out for around a year with a bad case of lazyness.
Before the final whistle sounded on a sensational Fosse city performance there was still time for Goddard to complete a well earned hat-trick and Reece to force a smart save with a stinging strike from 20yards. A bit of the shine was taken off C.Carter's performance when Hood Park failed to deliver the sausage and chips the captain had promised we would enjoy after the match. All in all, a sublime performance by all, which on another day could have resulted in twice as many goals, 15-0 was flattering to say the least, for the home side. Well done lads!
