Newport Harriers enjoyed a successful day out in the Forest of Dean on Saturday when they secured victory in 3 age groups in the Gwent championships which were incorporated into the highly competitive Gwent Cross Country League.

In the Under 20 men’s age group James Nasrat 3rd overall and winner of the SEW Championships was followed home by James Fookes-Bale, 6th Andrew Sims 10th and Paul Jones 14th as they also took a clean sweep of the first 4 places in the sew Championships. The Under 17 men almost emulated their senior team mates with Steve Davies 8yh in the race and 2nd in the championships Gareth Day finishing one place behind him and Owen Strange 22nd overall and 5th in the sew championships.

Nicola Wood was narrowly beaten into 2nd place overall in the under 13 girls race, but secured a comfortable victory in the championship event. Rhianon Lloyd 20th overall was 3rd championship race. In the senior women’s race Anne Saxena was the only finisher over an exacting course, winning both the championship race and the veterenne 45 category as she crossed the line in 20th place.

Other notable successes included under 13 girl Zoe Llewellyn (12th overall, 7th in the SEW championships) ; under 12 boys Lee Jones (17th & 2nd) and Steve Cox (33rd & 4th); Rebecca Hodges (23rd & 5th); and under 15 boy Craig Jones (26th & 3rd).
