Newport Harriers Cross Country |
Newport Harriers Athletic Club turned out a fairly strong group of athletes at Whitchurch, Bristol on Saturday 4/11/2000 for the second fixture of the
2000/2001 Gwent League cross country. Although the conditions were not conducive to good performances the athletes showed
great determination over an extremely muddy and heavy course.
In the Under 12 girls age group Zoe Llewellyn continued to contest the top placing in this
age group with 6th place following her 4th place at the first fixture. In the Under 13
girls event Nicola Wood led the team in 17th place with Hannah Scoular 19, Rhiannon
Lloyd 31st and Lucie Bebbington 32nd supporting well.
In the Under 20 mens event James Nasrat led home a strong team to contest the top place
in the league, with team colleagues Andrew Sims (29th) and Gareth Fereday (42nd),
whilst in the Under 17 age group Gareth Day finished a comfortable 26th with Owain
Strange (43rd) and Steve Davies (47th).
Once again Newport Harriers female athletes showed that even very heavy, muddy conditions cannot deter them from chasing the top placings in the league with Claire
Martin finishing 8th, Liz Francis-Thomas (17th), Carole Fereday (25th) Ann Saxena
(30th) and Mickie Short (41st). The teams now look forward to the next fixture in
December at Forest of Dean.
