Gwent Cross Country League 2000/2001

4th Round 17th February 2001

Newbridge Fields Bridgend

The Gwent League fixture in Bridgend saw smaller fields in all age groups. This was in part because athletes were preparing for the Welsh Championships next weekend, but also because some athletes have opted to switch to the indoor programme for the rest of the winter.

There were however some excellent performances from members of Newport Harriers Athletic Club. Zoë Llewellyn finishing 5th in the under 12 girls race and Nicola Wood 6th in the under 13 girls event were the pick of the clubs athletes. But there were also good performances from Lee Jones (20th) and Steven Cox (25th) in the under 12 boys event; Rhiannon Lloyd (20th) in the under 13 girls; David Scoular (9th) in the under 15 boys and Gareth Day (16th) in the combined under 17/20 men's race.

Mark Goodger ran a superb race to finish 25th in the senior men's race, but did not count towards Newport's scorers as he was competing for his university team (Bath). The only senior runner to score for Newport was Ken Goodger (244th).
