Newport Harriers Vets |
Due to the late completion of the Tidworth track, this match was moved to Derby at quite short notice, despite this they managed to organise a remarkably well run meeting. Newport had one representative, Keith Powell, and Lliswerry sent Colin Bradley for the Walk.
The weather was kind to us on the day, despite the forecast, so performances we good. The match was between the usual crew of South England, West of England, The Midlands, The North, East Midlands and of course Wales. Overall Wales finished a creditable 4th with the North running out the eventual winners in a tightly fought contest.
Keith filled in the M40 High Jump first taking 5th place with 1.45m, then immediately after that he took an excellent 2nd place in the Pole Vault with a seasons best of 3.20m which also equals his 20 year old PB. Colin walked magnificently, leading for most of the race, until passed with just under 2 laps to go. Colin was 2nd, well clear of the rest of the field.
