Well the Vets chose one of the wettest days of the year to hold the championships in Lechwith, Cardiff, not only that but the charity shield football match was also being held in the Millennium stadium just up the road. As a result the turn out was a bit poor this year.
This did not stop Newport Athletes from winning a few of the tittles being contested. Alice Symmons took part in the three heavy throws, and managed to walk away with all three - shot, discus and hammer. Also in the field events, Keith Powell won the Pole vault with 3.00m in the rain then followed that up with 3rd in the Long Jump (4.97m) and a disappointing 5th in the 100m (13.8).
Selection for the inter-area match will follow soon, the match has
been moved to Derby on 22nd September.
