National Young Athletes League (Boys) Newport
The final round of the National Young athletes League was held at Spytty stadium Newport on 28th July. Newport Harriers bade a sad farewell to a number of 16 year old athletes who were drawing their under 17 careers to a close at this level. It is with grateful thanks we wish: Steven Avery, Alex Leach, Aled Power, Dale Shepherd and Daniel Wilson every success as they begin their senior careers. Many new Personal Best's were set this day but Alex Leach ensured it was a day to remember by his team mates. Alex competing in the Hammer destroyed a 14 year old club record set by Lee Ashill at 39.52m in 1988, 3 times in 30 minutes. With 4 throws allowed Alex threw initially 38.25m.With his subsequent throws he threw a sequence that destroyed the old figures 40.27m, 41.20m and finally
42.31m. The Newport squad was:- Under 13; Rhodri Thomas, Leigh Colwell, Nicholas Johnson, Christopher Wreford and Adam Slaughter. The
Under 15's; Ben Hale, Christopher Wannell, Matthew Wreford, Matthew Reilly, Jason Leach and Mark Boswell (P.B.) in Discus. Under 17's; Daniel Wilson, Steven Avery, Aled Power, Matthew Lewis, Chris Muscat (P.B) Triple Jump, Dale Shepherd (P.B.)'s Shot and Discus.
