Newport Harriers UK Under 23/20 Championships

Under 23 & Under 20 Championships Bedford 29-30 June 2002

For once the weather was dry for the Norwich Union Under 23/20 championships at Bedford, although it was very windy. There were a couple of Newport Harriers involved in the events and they performed very well on the day.

Kris Jones ran really well in the 110m Hurdles, he won his heat in 14.94, then managed to improve that time to take 3rd place in the Under 20 final in a new club record of 14.83, shaving just one hundredth of a second off of the old record which had stood since 1990. This was wind assisted though. 

James Nasrat was second in his heat of the Under 20 800m in 1:54.73 but was unable to finish in the final. Liz Callicott managed 5th (69.69) in her heat of the under 23 400m Hurdles, and Becky Slaymaker took 6th (69.82) in the Under 20's but neither made the final.

In the Under 20 Long Jump, Lara Richards and Amy Prothero were involved in a close tussle in the middle of the field, Lara ended up 11th with 5.40m and Amy 13th with 5.23m
