National Young Athlete’s League Newport 18th May 2003

The young athletes of Newport Harriers gave a good account of themselves in the recent second round of the National Young Athletes League competition at Newport Stadium. There were a large number of 1st places across the age groups as new members competed to support their more experienced team-mates. Jason Leach lead the way with a fine performance in the hammer as the throws squad of Lisa Boswell, Samantha Adams, Rhainnon Greenway, Mark Boswell bade a fond farewell to the old hammer/discus cage prior to the erection of the new I.A.A.F. standard cage. No doubt the standard of throwing in Newport will improve even further with the addition of this superb piece of equipment as our throwers lead the way in the area. Rachel Conway and Rebecca Williams were in dominant form on the track setting the standard for team mates to follow as race after race was dominated by Newport Harriers athletes. New recruits Chris Evans, Dean Scrivens, Ashley Clarke and Richard Wells all under 15's set new P.B.'s in a variety of events . At the end of a good days competition Newport won the match with 297 points followed by Yeovil 265, Exeter 220 and City of Bath 175
