Newport Harriers track and field squads complimented each other in both gender
in this opening round of the Welsh Senior League Division 2 match. Newport who
were unfortunately relegated from the Welsh Premier last season have given the
job of promotion to their Junior squad members. The under 20’s did themselves
proud with predominately 1st and 2nd places. Jessica Robinson of Duffryn High
School in her first match had two impressive first places followed with a second
as she made her debut for the Club. In the field Lisa Boswell scored well
between them with Jessica’s help as they took all first places in the throws
except hammer. Jason Leach a first year U20 was on his own in the throws in his
first senior match had three thirds and a fourth using the much heavier
implements going from 5k to 7.2 k in shot and hammer. Rachel Conway was just
thwarted from a sprint double in the 200 metres having dominated the 100m. Also
in his first match was Owolabi Adebiyi who scored a third and fourth in the 400
and 800m respectively.
