Gwent Cross Country League 2006-2007

Blaise Castle, Bristol – 2 December 2006

Superb performance from Newport’s senior men

British international Stephen Davies turned in a magnificent top ten finish in 6th place to score huge points for Newport. Next Harrier home was the ever-reliable Chris Oxley (72nd). Joining these in the top 100 were Jeff Brimble (75th) and Gareth Fereday (97th). Neil Hardee had a good run (162nd) in his comeback season. Dave Lewis, who is converting to an all-round endurance nutter, was 171st, and stalwart Gareth Jones completed the men’s team in 262nd place. On the day Newport outscored all their Division 2 rivals to move to 3rd position, but still have a lot of points to make up if they are going to steal the second promotion slot.

In the U13 category, Elliott Hardee is jostling with Hereford’s Nick Park. At Blaise Elliott was 2nd to Park, but leads him overall by one point. In this race Curtis Goodger was well up the field in 25th.

Matthew Wreford (14th) and Ian Withers (16th) gave solid runs in the U20 race, and are contemplating a run in the senior race on their next outing. Jonathan Morgan was 20th in the U17s. Youngest athlete was Joel Parker (14th) in the Novices. Newport had two junior women - Ceria Rice was 24th (U17), and Delwen Louden was 50th (U13).
