Welsh Senior League 3rd June 2006 Brecon
Divisions 1 and 2 of the Welsh Senior League met on a glorious day in Brecon as
Newport Harriers senior Welsh squad triumphed in this round 2 match of the Welsh
Senior League division 2. There were two very noteworthy track events in the
200m Division 1 race Andrew Watkins of Cwmbran Harriers broke the League record
which has stood since 1993 as he took 1/10th of a second off with 21.7. The race
of the afternoon was provided by two Newport Harriers in a classic coach v.
athlete scenario. Some 17 athletes had been declared for the 800m and the
organisers decided to run the distance as two separate races leaving three
athletes top battle it out in the division two race. The race turned out to be
the pick of the afternoon as coach Geoff Brimble by the thickness of his vest
beat star “pupil” Matthew Wreford as both athletes recorded the same time.
Cardiff’s Ed Takata was right with them as again the thickness of Matthew’s vest
took him to second place, all three athletes recording 2 min 06.3. Kirsty
Crane’s confidence is growing as she recorded her second P.B. in Long Jump an
event she has just started and Lolita Moore came in with a new P.B. in the
senior women’s 100m in 13.4.
