Newport Harriers
|
Following promotion from Division 2 at the end of last season, Newport Harriers made their mark in the top flight with a top ten individual finish and joint 4th in the league. Steve Davies took advantage of the soft going and lack of mud to finish 4th. Neil Hardee produced a quality run to finish 29th (and 3rd place in the M40 race). Ian Withers was next Harrier home in 43rd and he will be missed if his impending move to Cardiff is completed. Chris Oxley has been the anchor of the team over the past few seasons and gave another reliable run in 51st place. Completing the team was Darryn McAtee (137th) who was pleased to claim the scalp of Vets rival Sean Price of Rhondda.

There were only two Newport runners in the senior women’s race. Ann Saxena is returning from injury (again) but ran strongly to finish 46th (3rd in the F50 race). Biggest run of the day came from Philippa Reilly. Phillipa was convinced she would come last but produced a gutsy run to come 116th (out of 121 finishers).
