Senior Men (203 starters) – Newport’s advance is too little, too late

The Gwent League resumed after its regular January break over the fairly kind Brecon course. Despite moving up one place, Newport’s men are still in the relegation zone with only a mathematical impossibility to save them in the final race of the season.

Johnathan Morgan provided a quality run in 18th place, with Dave Griffiths (90th) joining him in the top 100. Darryn McAtee bounced back from his struggling effort at Taunton to finish 106th, sixteen places ahead of training partner and club rival Stuart Pearce (122nd). Dave Proffitt had Stuart in his sights, finishing in 135th place.

Senior women (117 starters) – Saxena/Loudon rivalry reaches peak

Our 2-woman team maintained their 8th position in Division 2. Ann Saxena finished 31st, eleven places ahead of Rhian Loudon (42nd). Ann was the top Masters 50 athlete.

The really interesting thing is that overall in the league Ann lies 22nd, one place and one point ahead of Rhian, so it all depends on the final race..
