During the Cross Country season, Newport had a match against Roath Harriers on 19th Nov and running for the Cardiff side was a certain Ken Harris, who we all know in later life as one of the most respected men in Welsh athletics (he finished 8th).
The Walking section of the club performed well during the year and in the Monmouthshire AAA road walking championships won the team and individual titles, FC.Gibbons won the individual title in a record time and he repeated the feat at the Welsh AAA road walking championships again with a record time. The most striking feature of the race was the fact that only one senior in the count for Newport was an international, that being W.Short, to beat a club like Westbury with a junior/novice side speaks volumes for the strength of the Newport club.
