Newport Harriers Coaching

Level 1 

This course is an introduction to coaching skills, with a major emphasis on the “how to” skills rather than the “what” skills. The coaching skills are identified as:

The fundamental idea of the course, the reason why it has been developed, is to give coaches new to athletics an experience of coaching skills and the body's energy systems through practical experience.

Level 2

The course has a two-day core and a further day where the coach normally completes an optional module, where their coaching is assessed. The course is designed to develop the understanding gained at Level 1 and progress the Level 1 coach toward independent coaching.

Level 3 

Phase 1 Core Development and Performance. Comprise Modules 1 and 2. Module days will comprise two 6 hour days over one weekend. Phase 2, which will see Module 3 covering 'Performance Factors', will be held on a separate day.

Level 4

Phase 1 Core Development and Performance. Comprise Modules 1 and an Optional Module. Module 1 will comprise one 8 hour day while the Optional module is a 5 hour day. Phase 2, which will see Module 2 covering for the Development pathway 'Managing Development' and for the Performance pathway 'Managing the Athletes', will run at a later date.
