It was a scorching hot day for the second round of the new Welsh Junior
League, and the performances were just as hot. With records tumbling
everywhere, the busiest person on the park was the field referee who was
constantly validating new records, some which only stood for a few
minutes.
Kyle Arnold was one of the stars of the day with three wins out of
three, which included a new league record in the 75m Hurdles. Rhys
Norris broke his own record in the 1500m whilst Heddwyn Louden and
Stevan Russell fought over the new record in the Discus. Stevan held it
for just one throw as Heddwyn edged it. With Ryan Morgan also breaking
Stevan's Javelin record, he must have though he was being picked on.
Overall the Under 13 boys were dominant and rounded off their day with
an emphatic win in the relay.
Not wanting to be outdone the Under 15 girls also chipped in with a
couple of new records, starting as always with Beth Wakefield in the
100m (though she had to share it after race 2). Next it was Hannah
Griffiths who bettered her own records in the 200m and the 300m just to
show how it's really done. Beth Hill Howells had a close competition in
the High jump coming away with 2nd but another PB. Megan Coe also
improver her PB in the Javelin, there was a mix up of Chloe's on the
Discus (the official results are of course wrong) as Chloe Powell took
2nd not the Cardiff girl Chloe Phillips.
Katie Jane Priest was in stunning form again, cracking yet another pair
of records some distance ahead of the field in both the 100m and the
200m. She was then part of the victorious 4x100m team that also broke
the record, with Mellissa Roberts, Morgan Woodward and Danielle Morgan.
The Under 11 girls were swarming over the records as well, starting with
Amelia Reynolds who broke both the 75m record and the 150m record. Emma
Ligthart lopped over 10 seconds off of the previous best in the 800m
before the girls got together and took the 4x100m time apart as well. |
