Newport Athletes Feature Strongly in Welsh Masters RankingsIf anyone still wonders why Newport scoop the Welsh Masters League title year after year, then a glance at the Welsh Masters rankings from 2005 to 2007. It will clear any lingering issues for you. Quality and strength in depth is the secret. With the exception of the hammer throw on occasion, Newport athletes are included in each of the league disciplines, usually near the top of the list, and with the occasional world class performance thrown in for good measure. There are, of course, several outstanding Welsh Masters athletes, and these rankings are about everyone and for everyone. They have been compiled by Darryn McAtee of Newport Harriers, who has consulted with Marian Williams of Welsh Athletics, John Collins of Welsh Masters, and various individual athletes. Every effort has been made to make them 100% accurate. TrackThis year should be harder for us to defend our title as Masters Track & Field as Athletics grows in popularity and more teams take part in the S. Wales Masters League. We still go into the season as favourites though, so lets see us live up to the billing. FieldField events will be weaker this year as we have lost one of our
key throwers to injury, looks like Lawrence may not be able to throw
again. |
